
This photo shows a rather rare placid encounter of the Rio Negro river, the blackish water on the left and the brownish water of the Solimoes. This is downstream from Manaus. Since the waters are traveling at different speeds, generally the mixture results in very rough water. The mixing is not complete until many kilometers down stream.
The Rio Negro water is so acid that no insects can grow in this water.
