The center plaza of the old colonial town of Ouro Preto, MG is the flattest place in the old part of town. In foreground is my son Alan taking a picture of Lotus and the plaza. In the background is the Inconfidencia Museum telling the story of the failed rebellion of independence against Portugal. A dentist (Tiradente = tooth puller) led the rebellion because of the extremely high taxes on gold. The statue is at the place where Tiradente's head was placed on a pike after he was hanged, drawn and quartered.
